He probably went to Northampton Co. first, then returned to Isle of Wight Co., where the first Frances Mason sponsored him in 1642IIn 1660 he paid taxes on 890 acres in Isle of Wight Co., VA. His will of 1719 left land to his sons John, Thomas and William, and his blacksmith equiptment to our ancestor, Benja,inIDaughter of Anthony Fulgham.IJohn was a doctor and the executor of his father's will. He died at an early age, leaving a widow and small children, one named Larkin.IBenjamin was a ver active trader and his name appeared regularly in court and civil records in both Isle of Wight and Surrey Counties.IMary was the daughter of the second Frances Mason, and the grand-daughter of the Frances Mason who came from England in 1613. Their marriage license reads "Benjamin Johnson, Warranesquinoke, Mary Mason, Surrey County. IJesse had a son who served as Sheriff of Luenburg Co.. IVery little was recorded about James. His will was dated 30 Jan 1746. IJames will was dated 12 Jan 1785 and probated 22 Aug 1785. He moved from Isle of Wight Co. to Brunswick Co.,and deeded two tracts of land in those counties. In 1744 he apparently secured more land in Brunswick and Lunenburg and Lunenburg I Counties. SamfordISON OF THE FRANCIS MASON WHO CAME FROM ENGLAND IN 1613ICatherine was the daughter of the second Thomas Durham.IBenjamin served in the Revolutionary War, then apparently remained near home and inherited the home place. His will of 1812 left it to his son Anderson. "The Brunswick Story", a booklet written to coincide with the 350th anniversary of JIamestown, contains pictures of a large brick house which was known as "The Johnson Place". It was quite likely built by the first or second James. Benjamin's will was proved 26 Jul1813. Recorded, proved, etc, by court July 26th, 1813.IFrederick moved from Virginia to Shelby Co., Ky and raised his family there. Some of his children later returned to Brunswick and Lunenburg Counties.( IGeneral Services Administration records show that George served in the Third and Fourth Virginia Regiments during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted for a term of three years and was paid seven and one-third dollars a month. He was listed)' I "Drummer or Fifer" for his company on every muster roll. These muster rolls show him at Morristown, Philadelphia, Valley Forge, White Plains and Middlebrook, as well as several other places. Service records indicate that George's health ( I was not good, as he was on sick call a number of ti,es and sometimes was on "sick furlough to the southward in Virginia". He evidently died shortly after the war. His widow, Elizabeth, married his brother Edmund.+!IJames served in the Revolutionary War, and later moved to Shelby Co., KY and raised his family there. Some of his children later returned to Brunswick and Lunenburg Counties, VA.. Johnson, James, #S35471, VA Line, enlisted in Lunenburg Co.*!I, VA, applied for pension on 13 Jan 1820 at Shelby Co., KY, aged 63. At that time he had lived there for 9 years and in Kentucky aof about 20 years.-"IEdmund married George's widow, Elizabeth, and they had three children (Seth, Temperance and Benjamin) before leaving Lunenburg Co., VA about 1795. Their other four children (Rebecca, Littlejohn, Joab and Nancy) were born in Tennessee. The.,"Iy stopped a little while in Bedford Co., VA, and Carter and Sullivan Counties, TN, before settling in Grainger Co.,near what is now Manardsville. Emund's brothers Benjamin and Frederick were also in Tennessee, at least from time to time. /-"IJoab, his son, lived near the Anderson - Union Co. line; George, his stepson and nephew, had bought a farm on Bull Run Creek. From the Knox Co., TN Roadbook, (1792 - 1819), dated April 1804: "George Johnson to oversee the building of a sec0."Ition of road in the Bull Run - Grainger Co. line area". He was to be assisted by others, including Frederick Johnson. This same order was renewed in July, 1805, and again in April, 1806. In April, 1809, Edmund Johnson was appointed over1/"Iseer of this same road, and his orders were renewed in April, 1810. In April, 1814, John Cox was made overseer withmthe stipulation "that hands under Edmund Johnson do work thereon". In October of 1816 Seth Johnson became overseer. In 1820"I24 Edmund's son Seth purchased a land grant of 160 acres in Stockton Valley, Roane (now Loudon) Co., TN. In 1825 Edmund and his son Benjamin did the same. The deed was registered in Knox Co. in Jan 1801. The farm was in Knox Co. until Union Co75'I. was formed. The deed was witnessed by Edmund and Benjamin Johnson. In the war of 1812 George fought under General Jackson at the Battle of the Horseshoe. He enlisted in the Fifth Regiment at Knoxvill on 14 Nov 1814, served in the Compa6'Iny of Capt. Nicholas Gibbs, and was discharged 18 May 1815.9+ISeth enlisted in the War of 1812 as a private in the Company of Capt. John Sharp, in the Regiment of 5th Tennessee Milita under the command of Col.
